“In 1959, 14 years after the atomic bombing in Hiroshima, Alain Resnais and Marguerite Duras drew upon its memory to create a film of rare beauty, a cinematic poem of love and death. Over half a century later, in a world that seems increasingly on the brink of irreparable harm, Australian composer Rósa Lind and Quebec director Christian Lapointe revisit this cult classic, revealing its operatic potential.
Paying homage to the film’s remarkable modernity and Duras’ uncompromising script, Lind and Lapointe deliver an opera that defies conventions and blurs the boundaries between disciplines. Developed in collaboration with the Quatuor Bozzini and the opera company Chants Libres, Hiroshima Mon Amour is a work for eight instrumentalists, three singers, and one live filmmaker. Like the film it is based on, it is a bold and passionate cry for peace.” ~ FTA
